Robert Lewandowski insistence on moving away from Borussia Dortmund this summer came as an encouragement for Manchester United, who are reportedly willing to double the Polish forward’s salary.

Lewandowski earns almost £40,000 a week at Dortmund, but United are prepared to double-up his weekly earnings to £90,000 a week.

The striker’s much-expected move to Bayern Munich appeared to have fallen through after Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke disclosed that they will not allow their wantaway striker join arch rivals Bayern.

The player himself was stunned by the development but does not believe he will be at Dortmund next season.

Lewandowski said: “I do not think that this is the final decision and I expect the situation to change.

“I am enjoying my holiday for now but I hope things move forward pretty soon and the situation changes.

“I do not get upset about anything.”

Dortmund will not want to have the Polish striker until next season as he has just 12 months left in his present deal and will have to leave as a free agent next season.

In lieu of losing him for nothing, United have now been told to step up their bid to £25.5m as reported by the Sun.

At the moment, Lewandowski’s decision is key and United hope the £90,000 a week salary could tempt him to the Premier League champions.
