English FA Cup Finals Moved to the End of the Season.

For the first time since 2010, the English FA Cup will return to the end of the domestic season and no league games would be played on such days.

The 2014 final will take place on 17 May, the weekend after the final round of league games.

Last season’s FA Cup final between Manchester City and Wigan came up three days before Wigan confirmed their nPower Championship status.

While in 2011, Manchester City defeated Stole City in the final on the same day that Manchester United won the Premier League.

But FA general secretary Alex Horne disclosed on Wednesday that England’s oldest football tournament will now have a separate day to itself.

“We are aware fans and media have been calling for the FA Cup final to have a day to itself and we’re delighted that this is going to happen for 2014.

“There have been various reasons, not least the two Champions League finals in Wembley Stadium, which have been fantastic occasions and required huge resources and a massive build up time behind the scenes,” Horne added.
