Jose Mourinho has made a £35 million move for Zenit St Petersburg’s Brazil forward Hulk- real name Givanildo Vieira de Souza, having lost out to Monaco on No1 target Radamel Falcao.
In another development, Bayern Leverkusen has confirmed talks are ongoing with Chelsea over Andre Schurrle but have denied a deal has been done yet.
The Blues were close to buying Hulk last summer but failed to agree a deal with Porto- the player’s club at the time- demanding £40 million.
Hulk later joined Zenith in a deal worth £50 million, but the mega-rich Russians are already looking forward to selling the 26-year-old to cut their losses after failing to impress in his first season.
According to the Mirror, Mourinho is a big admirer of the versatile Brazilian who can play on the left of the attack or through the middle.
And as the tussle for the signature of Edinson Cavani intensifies, with Manchester City likely his destination if new Napoli manager Rafael Benitez fails to convince him to stay, the Chelsea boss is desperate to strengthen his strike-force and Hulk remains a potential summer signing.
Meanwhile, Bayern Leverkusen has rubbished claims that they’ve reached an agreement with Chelsea over the services of Germany international Andre Schurrle.
A report in the Cologne Express had earlier suggested that Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller had met with Chelsea representatives during ex-Blues midfielder Michael Ballack’s testimonial in Leipzig.
Mourinho was managing the World 11 against a ‘Ballack and Friends’ team. Schurrle also played in the World 11 team on Wednesday. Meanwhile the German club is insinuating that “nothing has been decided at the moment.”
