Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama disclosed that Blessing Okagbare is set to make a special appearance at the venue of the 2013 CAA/Warri Grand Prix scheduled for Friday.
Nesiama speaking on a programme organised for tomorrow Grand Prix added that the Olympic bronze medalist, however, might be rested for the Grand Prix. Her appearance is to serve as a moral boaster to the participating youths at the Warri township stadium.
Part of the highlights for the international competition is the participation of senior, youth and junior Nigerian athletes in all events as part of the preparations for upcoming competitions.
While Gloria Asumnu, Ajoke Odumosu, Regina George and Amaka Ogoegbunam are among of the athletes invited for next week’s national trials, new discoveries such as Stephanie Kalu and Ndu Ugonna will also take part in the event.
Nurudeen Selim, Abiola Onakoya and Noah Akwu are the male athletes.
Ahead of the national trials next week in Calabar, Nesiama said all invited athletes will have to fight for their places in the team.
According to the Technical Director, there will be no automatic ticket for athletes that fail to meet up to standard.
