IG Deploys More Policemen, Helicopter In North-West Over Zamfara Killings

MOHAMMED_ABUBAKAR_POLICE-IGThe Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the deployment of policemen to Zamfara State in the wake of the massacre of 48 persons by gunmen believed to be herdsmen last Tuesday.

Abubakar, who is from the state, also ordered that a police helicopter be permanently stationed in the North-West zone for aerial surveillance and to increase security coverage of the zone which has witnessed attacks and impunity by armed gangs.

The decision, it was learnt was taken due to the massive land mass of the state and the numerous villages that are separated by long distances which makes it difficult for the security agencies to effectively secure the state or provide efficient police patrols.

Confirming the development, Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said: “The police will station a helicopter in the zone to provide effective aerial surveillance for the states; the IG has issued an order to that effect and I’m sure such heinous crimes will be curbed with the deployment of the chopper and more personnel in Zamfara State.”
