The game between Argentina and Ecuador has made all the headlines for the most absurd reasons as midfielder, Javier Mascherano, takes center-stage again.
The two South American nation’s World Cup qualifying match in Quito, Ecuador was marred by a bizarre incident when Mascherano was sent off for kicking the driver of a medical cart.
After picking up a knock, the medical staff had tried to assist the player off the pitch with the cart when it appeared water was thrown at the 29-year-old Barcelona midfielder who then kicked the medical staff member navigating the cart.
The referee for the match, Enrique Caceres showed Mascherano a red card in the 86th minute for the incident then, it developed into angry scenes on the touchline.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero opened scoring from the penalty spot after four minutes before Segundo Castillo equalized 13 minutes later. The match finished 1-1.
Argentina still top their group with 26 points, three ahead of second-placed Colombia in the South America 2014 World cup qualifiers.
