A power generating firm, Geometric Power System, owned by former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji will begin generation and distribution of power in Aba, Abia State next month.

Prof. Barth Nnaji, who is also serving as Chairman of the firm said, necessary arrangements have been concluded for the power company to take off.

According to Nnaji, distribution of electricity from the power plant will be carried out under the name; Aba Power Limited.

He however maintained that generation of power will be carried out by Geometrics Company located at Osisioma in Aba.

Speaking on Monday while hosting the General Secretary of National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who was in Aba to inaugurate a chapter of the union in the new company, Nnaji said the company would be officially commissioned in August by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former Minister disclosed that 141 Mega Watts of electricity would be generated at the plant. “The power needs of Aba will be supplied and excess supplied to the national grid,” he said.

Professor Nnaji explained that the main aim of the project which began in 2004, was to position Aba as the industrial capital of Nigeria.

  1. let every city in nigeria be know for its uniqueness, so aba should be known as the industrial city of nigeria just like wolverhamton in england. nice move though by prof. Nnaji. i have always known as a great thinker.

  2. May God bless the Prof. This’s the kind of investments Nigeria needs, not those traders importing goods from China & calling themselves businessmen
