Northern youths under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) yesterday expressed concern over what it described as ‘unnecessary bickering’ by the 19 Northern governors in reference to the crisis tearing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum apart.
President of the forum, Gambo Gunjugu, who made the youths’ stance known, said they are disappointed that a political bickering between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Ameachi both from the south- south could cause a crisis in the Northern Governors Forum.
“We are bothered that as leaders of the north, our governors have resulted to unnecessary bickering aimed at oiling their personal political interest ahead of the next elections.
“We believe that as leaders in their respective states all over the north, the governors first and foremost should be concerned about the welfare of the people who voted them into power and not personal gains.
“We are also pained that in the midst of all these President Goodluck Jonathan has continued to implement the amnesty programme for the youths in the Niger Delta region, while youths in the North has nothing to show as dividends of democracy. President Jonathan is busy developing the Niger Delta while our own leaders are fighting over themselves to support him; this is not good at all. We say enough is enough”, he said.
