Students in Osun State government schools will now pay the sum of N1,750 for school uniforms, sources have said.

The state government recently gave out uniforms to students of public schools in the state following the breaking down of the school system into elementary, middle, and high schools. Each section across the state were given the same uniform, and the students thought it was going to continue, as they enjoy free education, but now, each student has to pay N1,750 to get a new uniform.

A middle school student in the state who pleaded anonymity expressed his disappointment over the development.

“As much as I hate putting on the same uniform with every student in my class in other schools, I was happy when they gave us the uniform free of charge. My parents struggle to buy uniform for me before,” he said.

“Now the uniform is old in not up to a year and we were told on Thursday that we have to pay N1,750 for another uniform. This is not good. The government should please come to our aid.”

Another student who simply gave her name as Tolani who said she had no problems with the alleged fee for new uniforms however lamented that she was yet to receive the tablet (opon imo) promised by the government despite media claims that students have been given.

“It was only given to SS3 students of Ataoja School of Science. We are yet to receive our own,” she said.
