The clamour by prominent northern groups that power must return to the North in 2015 has been dismissed by the Arewa Peoples Patriotic Front (APPFRONT), who said those making the call lack the justification do so, insisting that President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo should continue in office because they have justified their mandate.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna at the weekend, chairman of the group, Mr. Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim, said that Mr. Jonathan is constitutionally permitted to seek re-election just as he commended the President and Vice-President for doing their best to move the nation forward despite the prevailing circumstances they found themselves while serving as leaders.
According to the group, it would be uncharitable of anyone to claim that the present administration has not done anything good to better the lot of Nigerians and should therefore, vacate office in 2015.
“There is no individual, no matter the geopolitical zone the person may hail from, that can claim to have the magic wand to solve the problems of our nation, which were created over a period of years. Unfortunately, this decay and wanton destruction in the fabrics of our nation was wrought by our past leaders, including some of those presently calling for the return of power to the North in 2015,” the group said.
