A 55-year old farmer, Unugbai Godwin, arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court, Kwara State, has been remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, north Central Nigeria, on the order of Magistrate A. O. Adeniyi, for allegedly killing his co-tenant.

The accused was reported to have, on 25 June, fought with the deceased, Mrs. Ramat Abdulkareem, and she died during the scuffle.

According to the complainant, who is the husband of the deceased, the accused pushed the deceased during a fight, as a result of which she was rushed to a private hospital in Ilorin, where she later died.

Police First Information Report, FIR, on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ilorin, revealed that the accused, who was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to section 222 of the penal code law, committed the offence.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Fatimah Ajape, objected to admitting the accused to bail and prayed the court to remand him in prison custody pending the completion and outcome of on-going police investigation.

The magistrate upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered his remand, while adjourning the case till 16 July for further mention.
