Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has handed in a transfer request amid speculations linking him with a move away from Villa Park.

The club does not want to waver from their stand point of not selling the 22-year-old they signed from Genk for £7m last summer.

The Belgium international went on to score 23 goals in his first season at the club.

Benteke has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea, but the club has stated they will ‘act’ on offers that meet their valuation and that it is in the club’s interest for him to see out the remaining three years of his current deal.

“He will remain a Villa player should this not happen,” a statement released by the club stated.

“He was reminded that there are three years remaining on his contract, we consider him to be a Villa player and expect that he will be with us for the 2013-14 season.”

Benteke ended the 2012/13 season as the fourth-highest Premier League scorer, he contributed immensely in ensuring Villa avoid relegation.
