Ahead of Wednesday’s Federation Cup quarterfinals clash between Enyimba and Nasarawa United at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, the Aba club’s striker, Chiemezie Amanfor, has played down the challenges of their opponent.
‘The People’s Elephant’ defeated Glo Premier League side, 3SC, 3-1 in the round of 16 in Abuja while Nasarawa united edged Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Lokoja to reach the quarterfinals.
Amanfor said for his side to have survived the onslaught of the Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Remo Stars in the round of 32 in Lokoja means that no other side can stop Enyimba from winning this year’s tournament.
“We prefer to talk with our legs on the field of play not outside the pitch. On Wednesday history will be made by the better side of the two,” the striker told supersport.com.
“I believe we’ve played our toughest game in the ongoing Federation Cup against Remo Stars in the round of 32 in Lokoja.
“People are most likely to dismiss Remo Stars as a lower division side but we see them as the toughest hurdle to winning the Federation Cup tile.
“We don’t see any other side including Nasarawa United capable to stop us from playing in the semifinals en route to the final and winning the title,” Amanfor added.
“Nasarawa United maybe banking on the experience of their coach Alphonsus Dike, we, too have ours in Salisu Yusuf. They forced us to 1-1 draw in the league. I think they’re ordinary even on their home ground in Lafia.
“I’ll use my chance at goal but our focus is not on who scores rather to win and progress to the semifinals.”
