frsc-logo-150x150The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ondo State command, on Thursday warned motorists against making calls while driving.

The Sector Commander, Aderonke Daniel, gave the warning in Akure.

Ms. Daniel warned that any motorist found using cell phone while driving would be arrested and prosecuted. She said the corps would also impound and prosecute any vehicle that violated traffic rules to serve as deterrent to other road users.

“The effort will reduce the number of road accidents to 50 per cent in the country,” she said.

Ms. Daniel said that 31 people died while 256 were injured in various road accidents in the state in the second quarter of the year. She also said 228 motorists were prosecuted between April and June in the state.

“This indicates a reduction in the number of accidents recorded during same period in 2012 when 43 people died and 328 were injured,” she said.

The sector commander expressed concern over the rate of road accidents in the state in spite of awareness being mounted by the corps on traffic rules and regulations.
