Glo NPL Matchday 21: Dolphins Conquer Akwa United.

Glo Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Week 21 clash between Dolphins of Port Harcourt and Akwa United was concluded on Monday morning at the Liberation Stadium after a heavy downpour had resulted to the suspension of the tie originally scheduled for Sunday.

The match ended 2-1, with the visitors pulling back a goal at injury time. The match was halted after first-half because of a waterlogged pitch on Sunday with Dolphins leading 2-0.

Johnson Olewezi scored a brace for the Port Harcourt club, while Mfom Udoh got the consolation goal for Akwa United.

Meanwhile, reactions have been trailing the result from both club’s managers. Dolphins’ manager, Stanley Eguma believes both teams did put up a good performance despite the disruption caused by the rain.

“It was a good game and I commend both teams for maintaining high level of performance even though the match was disrupted by the weather,” Eguma told supersport.com.

“I wouldn’t blame the goal we conceded on lack of concentration, and I must give credit to Akwa United for not giving up.”

Akwa United head coach Justin Tenger praised his side for upping their game on resumption of the second-half.

“I’m satisfied the boys were able to make good of their promise of a better performance today (Monday) after conceding two early, careless goals yesterday (Sunday),” Tenger told supersport.com.

“Had there been more time, I’m sure they would have leveled up the game.”

Tenger however remains confident that his side will achieve their aim of pulling out of the relegation zone, despite the rather unsatisfactory result.

“I know the defeat has further deepen our position on the log, no doubt about it but we remain confident of pulling the side out of the danger zone.

“My confidence has not shaken for a second of our capability to escape relegation at the end of the season,” said the former Niger Tornadoes coach to supersport.com

The victory propelled Dolphins to sixth place in the Glo NPL while Akwa United remain in the 18th position.

The Uyo-based club will host another relegation battlers, Lobi Stars, in the Week 22 tie of the Glo NPL at the Uyo Township Stadium.
