I’ve Never Taken Sides With Jang, Says Yuguda

Bauchi State governor, Malam Isa Yuguda yesterday rescinded his decision to stop attending meetings of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), saying his U-turn is in the best interest of the North.

Isa-YugudaYuguda had announced his withdrawal from the 19-states Northern Governors’ Forum following the defeat of Jonah Jang of Plateau State by his Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election in May.

Yuguda told Journalists at the Bauchi Government House on Tuesday that he changed his mind after some eminent northern elders talked to him and advised him to rejoin the Forum in the interest of the region.

The governor, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Yusuf Musa Gumli, noted that,“it is very disappointing that the political trend as it recently relates to the Northern Governor’s Forum in its bid to elect a leader, ended up in a tussle.”

He explained that shortly after his withdrawal, elders from the North called him and asked him to rescind the decision, adding that, “As an obedient son, I have accepted their appeals and went back to the Forum. I have never taken sides with Jonah Jang I was only working under the instruction of the NGF so that Plateau state will be the centre of north, where there is a fair representation.”

In apparent reference to speculations that he is looking to become Vice-President in 2015, the governor admitted that it was not a sin for him to aspire for any post be it the president, vice-president or even the CBN Governor, stressing that, “there is nothing wrong for one to aspire for any position in the country so long as due process and legitimacy is followed.”
