Nigerian-military-at-workThe one-year-old dusk to dawn curfew (9pm to 6am) imposed on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has been relaxed.

A statement yesterday by the Joint Task Force (JTF) spokesman in Maiduguri Lt. Col Sagir Musa, said the curfew was relaxed for two hours as a result of the improving security situation in the metropolis coupled with the need for more freedom during the Ramadan period.

The statement reads in part: “JTF says it has observed tremendous improvement in the security situation in Borno state and for that reason and in the spirit of Ramadan, the task force finds it expedient to review the curfew timings imposed in the state.”

With the development, curfew in the state is now 11pm to 6am.

The statement further enjoined Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for lasting peace in the state and in the country.
