The crisis rocking Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a twist on Monday as the national headquarters of the party in Abuja announced Mr. Tony Nwoye, in place of Senator Andy Uba as its candidate for the November 16 Anambra governorship election.
The duo of Nwoye and Uba emerged as candidates at parallel congresses of the party on Saturday in Awka, the Anambra State capital in what curious observers described as an embarrassment to the self acclaimed ‘largest party’ in Africa.
The PDP national chairman, Bamanga Tukur, stated the party’s position in Abuja today while receiving the report of the party’s electoral panel chaired by Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State.
The Shema-led panel conducted the primary won by Mr. Nwoye.
The other primary, won by Mr. Uba, a serving senator, was conducted by the parallel chairman of the PDP recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ejike Oguebeo.
Ken Emeakayi, is the factional chairman of Anambra PDP recognised by the national leadership of PDP.
