Basketball: Kano Pillars Claim Pole Position in the Savannah Conference.

Kano Pillars basketball club beat Mark Mentors of Abuja 76-74 in the last game of the Savannah Conference top four of the 2013 Nigeria Basketball League on Monday in Abuja.

Debutantes, Mentors, were few seconds from claiming victory before they lost composure; Okpe fouled Abubakar Usman in the last second of the quarter. The resultant free throw leveled up score at 69s to take the tie to overtime.

With about eight seconds left in the overtime and with scores tied at 74 points, Dennis Ekirobo committed another foul that had Mathew Omoyeh step up to the free throw line to convert and earn Pillars victory.

In the other game, Plateau Peaks beat Niger Potters 72-63 to finish third in the Savannah Conference.

Action resumes in the Atlantic Conference on Saturday with Union Bank, Dodan Warriors, Islanders and Oluyole Warriors all involved in the battle for the top two spots in the final four.
