Union Bank of Lagos emerged champions of the 2013 DSTV Premier Basketball League Atlantic Conference Final Four by beating Dodan Warriors of Lagos 79-63 on Monday.
The two clubs will join Kano Pillars and Mark Mentors of Abuja, both from the Savannah Conference, at the National Final Four Championship later this year.
“It is a great moment in the club’s history. We have had years of setback, but this season is just something special. The club’s current players are obviously the best you can think of right now,” assistant coach of Union Bank, Chris Okoh, said after the victory over Dodan Warriors.
“We will continue to train hard and remain positive as we prepare for the National Final Four, which is the ultimate.”
In the other match played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos- venue of the National Championship- newcomers Oluyole Warriors defeated Lagos Islanders 59-53.
The defeat put paid to Islanders’ dream of playing in the season’s National Final Four as they only needed only one win to beat Dodan Warriors to the Conference’s second place position.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) are yet to set aside the date for the National Championship.
