Bayern Munich secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Borrusia Monchengladbach to hand new coach Pep Guardiola his first league victory and set off their Bunsdesliga title defence on a winning note.
Arjen Robben, Mario mandzukic and David Alaba were on target for last season treble winners, but an own goal from Dante before the break almost handed the visitors a comeback.
Bayern became the first German team to win the Bundesliga, Champions League and German Cup under Jupp Heynckes last season, however, their defence was continually under pressure throughout the second-half without new signings Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantra in the midfield.
The Bavarians were 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes of the first-half. Robben ran on to a searching pass from Franck Ribery to slot the ball past goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen before Mandzukic buried a rebound after a Ribery shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
Bayern were simply in control for the rest of the half until Dante steered a cross from Juan Arango past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and into his own net.
Max Kruse twice came close to leveling up for Monchengladbach at the start of the second-half but fluffed the chances.
But Bayern then won two penalties within a minute. Muller’s attempt from the spot after Alvaro Dominguez handled the ball in the area was kept out by Ter Stegen, only for the same Dominguez to concede another as he handled Robben’s follow-up.
Austrian left-back Alaba stepped up to convert the second to hand the champions the required three points.
