Benue Govt Assures Residents Of Safety

Benue State Deputy Governor Chief Steven Lawani, Friday assured people of the state of government intervention following the recent killing of 15 persons in Agbaaga villages in Ukum local government area, declaring that normalcy has returned to the area.

“They invaded the villages in several cars and stated shooting anything in sight without any resistance from the villagers.

“They set several houses ablaze while the villager fled for safety and at the end of the operation that lasted close to four hours over 15 houses and huts were completely razed, the deputy governor said.

“At the moment, the affected villages have been deserted while women and children who ran in droves are seeking refuge in neighbouring villages.”

According to Lawani, “I can also assure Benue people that we are not resting but I must urge the people of the state to be vigilant and not take anything for granted. Please report any strange movement in your area to the nearest Police post because we are determined to safeguard the lives and property of the people of this state irrespective of where they are located.”
