The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said there was no alternative to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in terms of leadership quality, vision and delivery of democracy dividends.
The minister stated this on Tuesday in Abuja, at the briefing of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on the ministry`s activities in the last two years.
The minister added that it was only a PDP led Federal Government that could guarantee the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He stressed that the transparent election which the opposition party was presently enjoying could only be guaranteed by the ruling PDP.
On the menace posed by Boko Haram, Maku lamented that the activities of the terrorist sect had damaged the reputation of the country and over shadowed the positive achievements of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
He also warned that level of violence witnessed across the country should not be blamed on the President as he has done everything humanly possible to put the insurgency under control.
“A reforming President is never a popular President in the beginning until when the reform result begins to come out”, he said.
“Boko Haram has damaged the reputation of Nigeria. A report of a bomb explosion makes more news globally than commissioning of projects. We have been doing well in an atmosphere of negative reports. This government is the most documented in the history of Nigeria”, he added.
The minister also decried the opposition posed to the present administration from members of the ruling party, who he accused of ‘running down’ the government inspite of its achievements across the country.
According to him, “We have contradictions in the polity and these are one of the things that are affecting the way we are perceived and these are the constraint of our works.
“We have in our ruling party voices that tend to run down what we have achieved,’’ the minister noted.
He, therefore, called on such party members to refrain from such habits, adding that a political party should celebrate its achievement no matter the grievance among party members.
