Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Valencia defender Aly Cissokho on an initial season-long loan.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to add a couple of options to his defencive and attacking lineup before the end of the transfer window.
He had hoped to sign another left back, Guillherme Siqueira, from Spanish club Granada, but the club failed to agree a fee.
He is also linked with a loan move for Nigeria international defender, Kenneth Omeruo who recently, was granted a five year work permit by the Home Office.
Cissokho, who joined Valencia in last year from Lyon, is expected on Merseyside in the coming days to finalise the move and Liverpool will have the option to buy the Frenchman at the end of the season, should the deal go through.
Rodgers has shown interest in 25-year-old Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian. According to The Telegraph, the Russian club is willing to offload the Brazilian, but Liverpool could face stern competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham, who are also keeping tab on the player.
Willian was quoted by ESPN to have said: “I know there have been some talks, but I don’t know the values, the agent didn’t tell me, he just said there were talks with some clubs, he didn’t name them, but I think they are English.
“If it’s really Liverpool, then it is surely a great club. I’m hopeful and very calm, just waiting for the best.”
