Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ has condemned the killing of two police men in Edo State by suspected hoodlums on Wednesday.
Executive Director of ANEEJ, Reverend David Ugolor, in a statement said it was painful that those who volunteered to ensure peace and orderliness for the safety of all in the state are being killed in a manner as if they are not Nigerians like any other citizen in the country.
“It is painful that our brothers and sisters who have volunteered to ensure peace and orderliness for the safety of all in our state are being killed time without number in a manner as if they are not Nigerians like us.
“It is sad that after countless killing of security agents in the state, two police men were again killed on Wednesday along Benin-Auchi road by group of criminals who obviously derived joy by taking the lives of others,” ANEEJ said.
“Anytime a security man is killed, a family or group of families among us are thrown into mourning and as well into dehumanising state of poverty most especially when the slain security man is the breadwinner at home”.
ANEEJ therefore called on all Nigerians to see those killing the nation’s security agents as enemies of progress, adding; “We in ANEEJ hereby call on all Nigerians to see those killing our security agents as enemies of progress because those they are killing; are not only our security guards looking after our safety but our blood brothers and sisters”.
