In a drama reminiscent of the last days of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Mrs. Hauwa Suntai, the wife of ailing Taraba State Governor Pharm. Danbaba Suntai, who has been on medical trip abroad since October last year, has concluded plans to fly her husband into the country on Sunday.

Checks by Information Nigeria reveal that Gov. Suntai is not in stable condition to embark on the long journey home but his political associates, who are hell-bent on having him around to forestall the swearing-in of acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar as substantive governor of the state, prevailed on Hauwa to sign the discharge papers of the governor from the Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and Home in New York where he has been receiving treatment since March, 2013.

“The decision to return him was made mainly by politicians who want to gain political capital from his physical presence in the country,” one of the sources close to the governor said.

“They know he is still sick and is not in a condition to govern, but they plan to shield him from the public,” the source added.

Confirming the return of his boss on Sunday, acting governor Umar said all was set to accord the Suntai a rousing reception in Jalingo.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kefas Sule read: “His Excellency the acting governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, is pleased to announce that the executive governor, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai has recovered from the injuries he sustained during the air mishap of October 25, 2012”.

According to the statement, Gov. Suntai would be arriving Abuja at about 10 am on Sunday in the company of family members and friends from where he would take off for Jalingo, the Taraba State capital to be “received by the acting governor and other top government functionaries at about 2pm on Sunday.”

“His Excellency, the acting governor enjoins all Tarabians to turn out en masse to receive our beloved governor,” the statement reads.
