Cisshoko becomes the fifth player to join coach Brendan Rodgers side this season following the recruitment of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, defender Kolo Toure, midfielder Luis Alberto and striker Iago Aspas.

“I think we have a great team and great fans and together we can achieve big things,” said Cissokho.

Rodgers had hoped to sign another left back, Guillherme Siqueira, from Spanish club Granada, but the club failed to agree a fee.

Cissokho, who joined Valencia from Lyon for around £5m in August 2012, will compete with Jose Enrique for regular appearances for the Merseyside club.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add a couple of options to his attacking lineup before the end of the transfer window, though the move to land Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian has been disrupted by a recent £30m by Tottenham Hotspur.
