NGF Crisis: Amaechi Won’t Relinquish Chairmanship Position, Say Rivers Govt

NGF CrisisThere seems to be no end in sight to the lingering crisis in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) despite the intervention of former President Olusegun Obansanjo on Tuesday night.

Initially, it was widely reported that prominent figures in the conflict, Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and Jonah Jang of Plateau, were asked to step down for a neutral person, as a first step towards finding a lasting solution to the leadership crisis in the forum.

However, Gov. Amaechi has insisted that he will not resign.

According to Rivers Commissioner for Information Ibim Semenetari, while speaking with Daily Trust yesterday, Amaechi won’t step down as chairman of the forum.

“To the best of my knowledge nobody has approached the governor to step down for anybody as chairman of NGF, so the governor is not stepping down as he was freely given a mandate to head the NGF,” she said.

Meanwhile, Director of press in the Plateau State Government House, James Mannok when contacted, said he was not going to comment on a process that was still ongoing.

“We will not comment on a process that is still ongoing,” he stated.
