Chelsea FC defender Kenneth Omeruo is on the brink of joining Liverpool on loan as coach Brendan Rodgers look to strengthen his defence ahead of the new season.
Omeruo, who was previously on an eighteen month loan deal at Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag, passed his Chelsea medical last week after being granted a five year work permit by the Home Office allowing him to play in England.
And according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool has shown interest in the Nigeria international, who was handed jersey number 51 by Chelsea.
The Merseyside club has been scouting for more options in the defence since the retirement of Jamie Caragher and with the future of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger in doubt.
Rodgers has already secured the services of Kolo Toure from Manchester City and has pondered a return to Valencia’s Aly Cissokho.
It appears 19-year-old Omeruo will unlikely play regular roles in Jose Mourinho’s plans for the 2013/14 season and going by the rich tradition of the west-London club, could be farmed out on loan to enable him gain the necessary experience.
It is also understood that Swansea and West Bromwich Albion have also shown interest in the Nigeria centre-back who can also play right-back.
