Police Arrest Notorious Kidnapper In Enugu

The Enugu Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested a notorious kidnapper who has been on their wanted list.

The spokesman of the command, Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspect operated within the command and its environs.

He said the kidnapper was arrested by the anti-kidnap unit of the command around Ozalla in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesman, who did not name the suspect in his statement, said the suspect engaged the police in a gun duel before he finally surrendered to the superior power of the police.

He said the suspect had been on the wanted list of the command for a long time over a series of kidnap cases.

Mr. Amaraizu said he was recently declared wanted for his involvement in the kidnap of a victim identified as Faith Omoboriowo at Nru village in Nsukka.

In another development, the police said a plumber whose identity was yet to be ascertained reportedly fell into a soak-away pit.

The plumber fell into the pit when he went to work at the premises of Enugu North Mass Transit Park on August 16.

The police said the incident took place as the victim opened the slab to peep into the pit.

“Effort has been intensified by the Enugu North Local Government Council to bring out the victim from the pit,” Mr. Amaraizu said.
