Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has says the club are now in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale.

His comments follow reports that Los Merengues are preparing a bid in excess of the world record £80m fee paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Ancelotti told a news conference at Real’s training camp in Los Angeles: “I believe the club is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens.”

The player’s camp last weekend told top figures at Spurs of their clients wish to talk with Real.

But the Madrid club is yet to submit a formal written offer for the 2012/13 season PFA and young player of the year.

Ex-Chelsea boss Ancelotti also said former Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric would not be returning to White Hart Lane as part of any deal to land Bale.

“It is not true that Modric is going. He is a very important player for us and he will be here this season.”

Bale joined Tottenham in a £10m deal from Southampton in 2007 and renewed his contract in 2012 which ties him to the London club till 2016.
