The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Steven Lawani, has downplayed reports of possible attack in some parts of the state.

Lawani, who spoke at a press briefing in Makurdi weekend, said the rumours circulating in town of a purported Boko Haram incursion and the abduction of certain people from churches, were false.

He reassured the people of government’s determination to safeguard life and property just as he urged them to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation as security has been beefed up in flash points to forestall break down of law and order.

The deputy governor, who confirmed the killing of people in some villages in Ukum Local Government Area by unknown gunmen, said contrary to media reports that 30 persons were killed, only 13 deaths were recorded.

“Some of the stories being published are not true and they paint a wrong security situation in the state. There is no breakdown of peace, Benue remains very peaceful and all is well”, he said.
