A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday ruled that Senator Andy Uba remains the authentic candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
The court also ordered the Ken Emeakayi-led PDP in Anambra state to maintain the status quo pending the final decision of the court just as the PDP was also ordered to recognize the Ejike Oguebego-led faction of the party – as the authentic faction.
In the ruling handed by Justice H.A Nganjiwa, the court also instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Ejike group that conducted the primaries which produced Uba as the PDP’s candidate for the Anambra guber poll.
While, counsel to the Oguebego faction, Charles Onyebukwa expressed satisfaction with the ruling, Emeakaye’s faction, which produced Tony Nwoye as its candidate, frowned at the ruling.
Speaking through its counsel – Mecha Kalu, the faction said “Our position is that we have questioned the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter but the court left that question unanswered and then went into injunction which we have fought against and you can see the trend of events.
He however, expressed optimism that justice would be served saying, “After giving the order of injunction, the matter is almost as good as stale and we want the matter to continue to be heard so that the issue can be resolved”.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned further hearing on the matter to September 19.
