The Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Muazu Gangara, who was purportedly impeached yesterday, has dismissed the action of his colleagues, insisting he was still in charge.

Information Nigeria recalled that Gangara was impeached on Tuesday by 19 out of the 34 member state legislature during a sitting in which both he and his deputy, Dogara Matoh, were absent.

But, hours after his purported removal from office and replacement with Alhaji Shehu Tahir, Gangara told newsmen in Kaduna that the 19 members, who signed the notice of his impeachment did not form the required quorum, as such their action was a nullity.

The required quorum should have been 23 as against 19.

Gangara therefore, announced the suspension of the sitting of the Assembly “till further notice” and called on the people of the state to remain calm.

“Our fellow citizens i want to categorically inform you that the purported sitting by some members of the Assembly is a nullity,” he said.
