Eagles Will Prove Themselves at African Championship- Obaobona.

Rizespor centre-back Godfrey Obaobona has said Nigeria will do well at next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) despite his absence.

The Super Eagles team B has been grouped alongside hosts South Africa, Mali and Mozambique in the preliminary rounds of the tournament meant for footballers plying their trades on African soil.

Obaobona, who helped the team grab their first-ever CHAN ticket before joining his new Turkish club, is not eligible to feature at the tournament but insists the rest of the squad can finish off the job.

“Eagles won’t miss me, they will do well at CHAN without me. The team was not all about me, we have a lot of great players in the Nigerian League. I am sure they will do well,” Obaobona said.

The former Sunshine stars defender rebuffed claims that his inability to speak Turkish has been the underlying factor which has delayed his debut for his new team.

“There is no truth that my inability to speak Turkish is responsible for me not to debut for Rizespor. I can’t say why but I am sure God’s time is the best. I will soon get my chance to play.

“There are a lot of players who don’t speak Turkish and they are playing here in Turkey.

“All the same, I am learning Turkish just to be able to communicate better with my Turkish teammates,” he added.
