The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, will honour two of Nigeria’s most adorable broadcast journalists of their time, late Ishola Folorunsho and Ernest Okonkwo, posthumously, at Sunday’s grand finale of the Federation Cup.
Media Officer of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, revealed this on Thursday in Abuja, adding that the Governor will also name the Media Gallery at the Teslim Balogun Stadium after the two illustrious legends of journalism.
Okonkwo, during his days as a radio commentator for Radio Nigeria, has a unique style of using words to describe the field of play with the use of appropriate qualifying adjectives to every persona and acts, the player, referee or the officials.
Among the nicknames coined by the great commentator are: ‘Mathematical’ (Segun Odegbami), ‘Chairman’ (Christian Chukwu), ‘Justice’ (Adokiye Amiesimaka) and more.
Ishla Folorunsho, nicknamed ‘Mr It’s A Goal’, was another versatile and colourful commentator who also worked for Radio Nigeria.
Family members of both legendary commentators are expected to be in attendance to receive honours on their behalf at the colourful event.
