FG Responsible For High Unemployment Rate

The Director-General, Ekiti State Job Creation and Employment Agency, Mr. Folorunso Aluko, on Wednesday blamed the Federal Government for the high rate of unemployment in the country.

The DG said this while addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Aluko, a job creation expert, said that the failure of the Federal Government to arrest the economic drift in the land brought about the predicament of joblessness, which he traced to 1983 military incursion in government.

He said the introduction of the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme by President Goodluck Jonathan, was in response to the efforts made by the South-West governors to reduce unemployment and poverty in the zone.

He said, “Governor Kayode Fayemi has directed this agency to create employment for 20,000 Ekiti indigenes under the youths volunteer corps scheme.

“About 17,666 target has been met. The last batch, numbering 5,000, would be turned out on Thursday.

“Governor Fayemi’s efforts in undertaking the Ekiti volunteer programmes, had produced the chunk of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency, the paramedics, fire fighters and about 1,400 youths that were injected into the Teaching Service Commission.”
