Highway To Death: Suspected Boko Haram Gunmen Behead Seven On Maiduguri/Damaturu Road

bokoThe killing spree by unknown gunmen continued Saturday when seven people were killed in Makintamari village in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno state along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

It was learnt that the travelers were beheaded with their heads placed on their lifeless bodies on the main road creating a gory sight.

In a separate incident at the Makintafamari village, gunmen also slit the throats of four persons on Saturday. They were returning to Maiduguri in the evening.

The police commissioner in Borno State, Lawal Tanko confirmed the attacks.

Makintamari is a few kilometers from Benishek, centre of the massacre of over 100 travelers a week ago by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram.

In reaction to the killings, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State said: “We call on Mr. President and all the security chiefs, to intensify security operations through aerial surveillance, to contain the situation before it consumes the region and country.

“On our way from Maiduguri to Damaturu this afternoon (Sunday), we saw a trailer and bus that were burnt, with the occupants slaughtered and their corpses littering the highway.

“Government should rise up to its responsibilities to save the lives and properties of its citizens,” he pleaded.

The governor noted it was now a huge risk traveling on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway.

He urged the newly established 7th Infantry Division of the Nigerian Army, to intensify surveillance of all flash points in the two states, to flush out the insurgents.

  1. The adage that says, “remove the hand of a monkey from the b4 it turns to human hand” has finally come to bear in North. Boko Haram killings was initially targeted at the xtians hence the Northern elders shown no concern to nip it in the bud. But today everyone is feeling the hit including clerics who preach & brainwashed them about it. It is easy to quench fire on a match stick but not easy when such fire from a match stick has grown wide on a fueled environment. I want to believe now that if the North have the opportunity again now they would stop Boko haram, but unfortunately that won’t be easy.
