The Nasarawa State Ministry of Information and Ethical Re-orientation, Lafia, has been gutted by fire on Friday.

The fire, which started in the ministry’s store, destroyed property worth millions of Naira.

The ministry’s staff intervened by using detergents and water to check the fire before the arrival of fire fighters.

When journalists visited the scene, the Commissioner, Alhaji Hamza Elayo, and other senior staff of the ministry were seen making efforts to put off the fire.

A competent source in the ministry told our reporter that no life was lost in the inferno.

He said archival materials such as calendars, historical documents, diaries and other electrical appliances were burnt.

Elayo told reporters that the fire was caused by power fluctuations.

Elayo said that the fire started around 10.30 a.m but was put off through efforts of the ministry’s staff before the arrival of fire fighters from the state fire service.

He said the ministy’s store was being reorganised before the incident.

Elayo said that experts would be invited from the state ministry of works to ascertain the level of damage in the building to avoid cracks that might lead to its collapse. [NAN]
