Amid the financial crunch and ridiculous amounts spent to maintain public office holders in the country, a committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly has approved a new pension package for the governor and his deputy, just as it commendably rejected a proposal to include accommodation and furniture allowances.
The executive had in the bill proposed 50% of annual basic salary (N2,223,705) for office accommodation and 400% of incumbent’s annual basic salary as furniture allowance per annum.
But the House Joint Committee on Establishment, Pension, Training and Management Services and General Purpose in its report said ‘Nil’ below a proposal for the two items.
The report, which was presented to the House by committee chairman Abdullahi Khalid, recommended one personal assistant for the governor, two brand new cars including an SUV and a saloon car to be provided once; one driver as against the two proposed and four-bedroom duplex well-furnished with not more than three parlours within the state instead of the six-bedroom proposed by the Executive.
While the executive proposed free medical treatment in and outside the country for the governor and his/her immediate family members, the committee recommended medical treatment in any government hospital within the country for the governor and four family members.
Also 10% of the incumbent’s basic annual salary was recommended as utility allowance per annum instead of the 30% proposed by the executive.
For the deputy governor, the committee recommended one personal assistant, one insured brand new SUV, one driver, medical treatment in any government hospital within the country to include three family members, four-bedroom duplex with two well furnished parlour and 10% of incumbent’s basic annual salary as utility allowance per annum.
