After investigations proved him guilty, police Corporal Adegboro Kayode, who shot and killed a truck driver, Friday Igbinedion, at the Benin-Ore road last month has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

Kayode had on the 9th of August shot dead the truck driver who was driving an unregistered vehicle, following a disagreement over his driving of the vehicle.

Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command Wole Ogodo, while confirming the dismissal of Kayode, said six policemen were at the police post when the incident happened, but it was later discovered that it was Corporal Kayode who shot the deceased.

Ogodo said Kayode was found guilty of the offense after a trial by the Police authorities.

According to him, “He (Kayode) confessed that he carried out the shooting without the participation of others, so he has been tried and dismissed.

“He has also been charged to court for murder and he has been remanded while the trial goes on.”

Ogodo pointed out that the five policemen arrested with Kayode have been released after they were found not culpable of the offence.

“The other policemen were tried along with him, but they were not found guilty. Kayode confessed that he did the firing alone and we cannot punish the innocent along the guilty,” Ogodo said.

Those arrested but later freed for lack of proof linking them to the crime include Sergeant Audu Mamven, Sergeant Akinlotan Johnson, Corporal Mohammed Musa, Corporal Samuel Arabamen and Corporal Omole Godwin.
