Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party has finally officially split into at least two factions.

A new faction, consisting of seven of the party’s 23 governors has announced that it has taken over the party.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, a former acting National Chairman of the PDP, was announced as the leader of the new faction of the party.

The press briefing was attended by at least seven governors including those of Kano, Sokoto, Rivers, Jigawa, Kwara, Adamawa, and Niger.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was also at the press briefing. A former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the PDP, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was announced as the National Secretary of the new PDP faction.

The party leaders said they took the decision to salvage the PDP from those who have hijacked it.

  • Amaechi is a big shame to Rivers people who you are Governing with your greedy and selfish leadership. God will expose you soon when the time comes. Thought you people said you were fighting for the masses yet its solely for your own benefits alone and you are trying to force the masses into such disaster of greed. Act right and God willl make things right if at all it was even wrong.

    • @Steve Benson, let not full ourselves protecting either Amaechi/Jonathan, pls can you tell me any politician in that country called Nigeria that is fighting for masses, the answer is NO. Governor Amaechi and President Jonathan are greedy and selfish leaderships, everyday the corruption is increasing masses are suffering while our leaders are busy stealing our tresure with impurity. President Goodluck have not jail any corrupt leader since his tenure, didn’t we have corrupt leaders? the answer is YES, he is busy struggling for 2015 without achieving anything. I weep for my people.

  • To me PDP needs dialogy and resolution the conflict among themselves. Spliting is not the solution. My question is, what are they expecting we the masses to advocating for by spliting the part?
