REVEALED: Why Atiku, 7 Govs, Others Split From PDP

Former Senate President, Ameh Ebute, has said the 2015 presidency is the real reason former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, and others formed a parallel PDP at the weekend.

Ebute who spoke in Abuja, said due to the action of the group, they could not say that they were in authentic PDP.

Recall that Atiku and governors of Adamawa, Kano, Sokoto, Jigawa, Niger, Kwara and Rivers states Murtala Nyako, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aliyu Wamakko, Sule Lamido, Babangida Aliyu, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Rotimi Amaechi respectively and other party chieftains, had staged a walkout during the PDP national convention held at the Eagle Square, in Abuja.

The group had, through its chairman and immediate past national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, said its was the authentic PDP, describing the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led PDP as a factional body.

However, Ebute, who is the chairman, Congress for Equality and Change (CEC), called on the group to be honest, adding that the reasons they gave for staging a workout, were not entirely true.

“Their ambition is the presidency and since they know that President Goodluck Jonathan is entitled to a second term in office, they don’t want to wait until 2019, that is the honest thing, that is the problem.

“So, they should call a spade, a spade. And there is nothing like a new PDP. I am sure the leadership of the PDP and the leadership of this country will bring the aggrieved party members together and they will trace their way back.

“I describe them as aggrieved party members for reasons that are obvious, and their reasons are to become president and vice president of this country. That is all,” Ebute stated.

While stressing that the action of the group was not taken in good faith, Ebute said the reasons they gave so far for, staging a walkout and forming ‘the so-called new PDP’, are mere smokescreen.

“They are not the main reasons for their action. They call themselves a new PDP. PDP does not have two certificates of registration. The main certificate of registration is with the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the secretariat.

“So, when they talk about the new PDP, it beats my imagination. There cannot be two PDP in Nigeria. If eventually the peace move that will be put up by the leadership of the PDP fails, I foresee that they may move to the new Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).

“But they cannot have two PDP in the country. There is nothing like a new PDP. They don’t have a certificate of registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and they cannot sponsor any candidate on the platform of their so-called PDP.

“That shows that they have not completely left PDP. And that is why I told you that when the leadership of the real PDP makes effort to bring them back, they will definitely come back,” Ebute declared.
