Rumours I Was Poised for Arsenal Switch Were Agents Cook-ups-Obaobona.

Super Eagles centre-back Godfrey Obaobona has revealed the truth behind his much-hyped botched move to English Premier League side Arsenal in the summer.

Many reports had earlier speculated the former Sunshine Stars player was on the brink of a move to London but the defender has opened up that the story was made up by football agents.

“A lot of agents out there want Obaobona Godfrey as their player,” the 23-year-old defender told supersport.com.

“I would not run after an agent that is close to a club like, say, Real Madrid just because it’s a big club.

“Those (speculations I was poised for Gunners switch) were stories of agents and I don’t know anything about that.”

The defender is however, yet to feature for his new Turkish club Rizespor in the 2013/14 Super Lig season which has entered its fifth week.

He said: “So far I have played two games for the club and even scored in one of the test matches.

“I did not do pre-season with the club and the manager (Riza Calimbay) is trying to see my potentials before he throws me in but so far they have been very professional in the way they treat me,” he explained.

It appears very unlikely Obaobona will make his debut against the star-studded Galatasaray as both sides meet at the Turk Telekom Arena on Saturday.
