Tunisia coach Nabil Maaloul has resigned after the north African nation’s World Cup dream was ended by a 2-0 loss to Cape Verde Islands over the weekend.
Tunisia only needed a draw in their final Group B home encounter to Cape Verde but were beaten by the Blue Sharks, who went on to emerge winners of Group B.
Maloul, who came on board six months ago, accepted the blames, saying it was a bad night during which nothing worked out for him.
“It was an awful day. Nothing worked out for us against Cape Verde,” Maloul said at a press conference.
“My key players did to report to camp. I don’t want to mention names because I respect them. I can’t still tell what really happened. Supporters are the most disappointed. Cape Verde played better.
“It was my last game with the national team. I will not make any excuses. Those responsible for this are me and the players.”
