20-year-old Remanded In Prison Over R*pe Of 5-yr-old Girl

A 20-year-old man Oluyi Oba hass been remanded in prison by an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court, over alleged r*pe of a five-year-old girl.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Emmanuel David, yesterday, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 22 at 1p.m. in Iyin-Ekiti.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Simeon Ojo ordered the accused remanded in prison custody pending the receipt of legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

He adjourned the case till November 21 for hearing.

Analysts have lamented the increasing incidence of r*pe of minors, attributing it to a dip in values in our society. They warn that it may get worse if a decisive step is not taken to curb the menace.
