The Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that should Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi decamp to another party, it will not stop the ruling party from winning all future elections; even in the governor’s ward.
The declaration by the state PDP was in apparent reaction to a purported closed-door meeting the Rivers State governor held with some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently.
It noted that such move was not unexpected and therefore did not come as a surprise to the party as Governor Amaechi had consistently conducted himself in a rebellious manner and had displayed acts of disloyalty to the PDP leadership in the state and at the national level.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Jerry Needam, the Special Adviser to the Rivers PDP chairman, Mr. Felix Obuah.
The statement added that “In the light of the above, we are aware the governor has directed his loyal chairmen of local government councils and their councilors to commence registration of members for the APC in the various wards in the 23 local government areas of the state”.
The party further stated that while it was not opposed to the governor’s alleged move to dump the PDP for another party, it was very optimistic that his cross-carpeting would be of no significant impact to its success in all levels of election contests in not only the four Ikwerre ethnic group local government areas, but in the home ward of Governor Amaechi.
