The Adamawa State government has inaugurated conflict resolution committees for the 21 local government areas of the state.
Inaugurating the committees in Yola yesterday, Governor Murtala Nyako charged them to work selflessly towards identifying and resolving conflicts through dialogue in their areas.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Integration, Hajiya Halima Mohammed, said government would continue to advocate peaceful approaches such as dialogue, as effective means of resolving conflicts and misunderstandings in the state.
Mr. Nyako also commended the traditional institution in the state for its commitment to peaceful coexistence, pointing out that the setting up of the office of the Sarkin Matasa (Youth leaders) for the mobilization of youths against indiscipline and other vices was a welcome development.
Mr. Nyako added that the Ministry of Women Affairs has been directed to collaborate with youth leaders to inculcate discipline in youths.
In his speech, the Youth Leader in the Adamawa Emirate Council, Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Nyako, enjoined members of the conflict resolution committees to live up to expectation by justifying the confidence reposed in them.
