APC Faction In Adamawa Kicks Againts Nyako’s Imminent Admission Into Party

Murtala NyakoSome stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Adamawa State have rejected plans to admit the state governor, Murtala Nyako and his supporters into the new political party.

Recall that Nyako had since, through his press secretary, Ahmad Sajo directed thousands of his supporters, who had already registered with the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to begin to prepare for their eventual movement to the APC – which is a product of a merger between some opposition political parties including the ANPP. The governor has not hidden his desire to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the opposition.

However, speaking at a news conference in Yola, the state capital on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the Legacy Parties comprising of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the ANPP, Mukhtar Aliyu, accused the National Vice Chairman of the APC in the North East, Umar Duhu, of attempting to sell the party’s leadership structure to Governor Nyako at the expense of genuine party members.

Duhu, alongside other zonal executives of the APC had during a visit to the governor about a fortnight ago, assured Nyako of the party’s readiness to receive him and his supporters just as he hinted that the governor will retain leadership of the party in the state; a leverage he does not currently enjoy in the PDP.

“Instead of Nyako and his supporters to be co-joiners, the zonal leader, Alhaji Umar Duhu, made a fatal mistake by conceding the leadership structure to Governor Nyako as well as the leadership of the party in the state. Where does Nyako belong, is it the new PDP or the APC?” he queried.

Aliyu, who is the former chairman of the CPC in Numan Local Government Area of the state argued that Nyako’s coming was likely going to be a curse rather than a blessing since he was part of the PDP’s culture of imposition and highhandedness which he might bring with him to the APC.

“This is not a good development for APC, considering the fact that some of the reasons that have influenced the fusion of the Legacy Parties into APC were lack of democratic culture, promotion and perpetration of god-fatherism and imposition of candidates by money bags… We envisage that what is apparent in the new PDP and the larger PDP is bound to resurface in the APC if the group is wittingly admitted into APC, even on individual basis. The same group has succeeded in destroying PDP in Adamawa State and elsewhere”, he added.
