The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, has rejected their October pension over what they termed the inability of the board and the Ministry for Local Government to pay them the reviewed scale as approved by Governor Isa Yuguda.

State Secretary of the union, Comrade Yakubu Mohammed made this known yesterday when he led members of the union to the Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, secretariat in Bauchi.

Mr. Mohammed claimed that Governor Yuguda gave approval for the implementation of the new rate, but that the Ministry for Local Government was refusing to implement it.

“We have decided that we will not collect the money; we will not collect it unless the new pension rate is implemented. The governor approved the implementation and communicated it to the relevant authorities in August,” he said.

The union’s scribe, who appealed to the state government to urgently wade into the matter, said, “There was agreement between the union and the Ministry for Local Government, but to our surprise, the old rate was still used to pay us this month”.

The commissioner, Ministry for Local Government Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Faggo, could not be reached for his reaction.
